Alone: bad. Friend: good!

Bride Of Frankenstein
Saw this a few years ago on a double bill with it's prequel at the Nova and thought i'd refresh my memory as it's generally considered the greatest sequel ever made (well, relatively at least). There was the appropriate amount of racuous laughter at this session as people laughed at the more camp aspects of the films. To my mind, this is a little similar when you look at photos or film footage of yourself from the seventies or sixties. This film is superior to the original in that it gives the monster much more character (and as a result gives Karloff much more to do), introduces one of the more deliciously funny protaganists of all time in Dr. Pretorius and in a stroke of brilliance, doesn't reveal it's title character until the final minutes. I unfortunately cannot watch the hermit scene without bringing to mind Gene Hackman and Peter Boyle (although even without that memory it's quite funny). The featurette (or is it a documentary?) is solid, but for all his qualities as a filmmaker, Joe Dante ain't much of a host.
