World Wide Web
ho man. is this something. Google Earth is one of the most addictive lil toys i've come across lately. there's not alot to it and that's the way i like it. you need a broadband connection, and it's an app download. but once you have it running you basically get a globe of the world. type in an address like "Melbourne, Australia" and your POV slowly moves in zooming closer and closer until it becomes a series of satellite images. You use your mouse to pan around and the scrolly mouse to zoom in closer and closer. I wasn't able to see my work building because it was covered over by a hazy section representing government buildings (ahhh, clever!) but the detail was soo cool you could make out cars on the bridge between the casino and the exhibition centre. wow.
so i played a bit, and went to baghdad (lots of hazy parts), new york and looked at the world trade centre site, los angeles (and couldn't make out any hollywood bits), greenland (and looked at the melting ice), london (and looked at nothing in particular) and tried to find my house (but it was covered by clouds).
It's almost as cool as the real life. ahhh, Google, what'll they think of next? I hear their robot army is quite impressive.
